Kelsea nodded in understanding. “Hey, I’ve been there. Rookies and their egos don’t understand they’re now in the big leagues and must prove themselves all over again.”

“The frequent traveling schedule is already getting to him. He’s also feeling insecure about rookie LA Laker Xavier Malone who is having a great season so far. King was LA’s media darling while at UCLA, but now all the hype and focus is on Xavier,” Tatum said.

Ariana waved a manicured hand in dismissal. “I’ve seen lots of players come into the league and start off strong only to choke down the line. Tell King to not despise small beginnings. Slow starters usually emerge to be the stars.”

“Well, I’m sure you two have heard about the ongoing problems he’s having with Wesley Johnson,” Tatum continued.

“Yeah. Antoine has mentioned that since the fight they still have some rather heated arguments during practice and play rather aggressively,” Kelsea admitted.

“I don’t understand what Wesley’s problem is with King. King told me they nearly came to blows again during practice last week,” Tatum said.

“Wesley has always been a bonafide jerk if you ask me. It’s like I said before, he feels threatened by King because he sees his potential. Be sure to steer clear of him, Tatum, because he’s tried to come on to me before,” Ariana said.

“Girl, I don’t even get down like that,” Tatum said.

She was so glad to have Kelsea and Ariana in her life. They were really helping her adjust to New York and a life within the spotlight. She liked that she could be authentic and transparent with them, as they understood the ins and outs of such a fast-paced lifestyle, which could be overwhelming at times.

“Has King talked anymore about marriage?” Kelsea asked.

Tatum shook her head. “He’s been far too busy.”

“Well, look, start putting the pressure on, Tay. Aim for a wedding next summer during the offseason. And actually, I agree with your mom: Getting pregnant will speed up the process,” Ariana said only half-joking.

“Nah, don’t sell yourself short, Tatum. You’re worthy of a ring first,” Kelsea spoke up. “And please don’t let King string you along. You don’t want to end up a five- or ten-year fiancée like so many of these other WAGs.”

Back at home later that evening, Tatum was on the phone with her mother discussing Gya and Bryant’s current predicament.

“She’s taking this really hard, Mom. Not that I blame her. And I
